Things to look for if your toilet is leaking
Sometimes a toilet leak can be identified simply by listening to the toilet. If you flush your toilet and it continues to make noise after a minute or two you are almost certain to have a leak. You can also test for a silent leak. A handy little trick is to put a couple drops of food coloring in the back of the tank. Make sure you don’t flush the toilet and wait about 15-20 minutes. If the food coloring has leaked into the bowl you know that you have an internal leak that is costing you money. Make sure to promptly flush down all the colored water to avoid any staining in your toilet.
What can you do if your toilet is leaking?
If your toilet is 10 years or older is it almost always the best solution to replace the toilet. Newer models that are leaking can usually be repaired at a relatively lower cost.
